I’d like to ask: I’m now having pain on my back, below my shoulder. Sometimes the pain expands to my arms, especially my triceps and the front of my arm. I feel pain mostly when I sit. But when I stand I will feel pain when I lift my chin up. I still can bow my head down. I can bow down and reach my legs without pain. I can also stretch my arms without pain. I feel little aches when I let my arms down. I visited a doctor twice already (Social Security). The first time, doctor gave me Norgesic and Dinac (initially I didn’t feel pain in my arms, just on the back. But I took exercise and the pain ran to my arm. I also feel pain in my arm when I was asleep so I couldn’t sleep properly. I felt pain when I slept in certain positions. The second time, doctor gave me Norgesic and Naproxen.
When I took the complete dose of Norgesic and Naproxen, I felt better. The pain reduced at the end of the day. But when I woke up the pain came back (on the day I’m writing to you I just took a set of the medication from the second prescription). Now I’m not sure that the pain is in my own head. The aching arm can’t grab things like another arm. Sometimes I felt twitches in the triceps, I felt pain when I grab things.
From what I told you, do you think this is serious like herniated disk? What should I do next? Should I finish the dose the doctor gave me and if it doesn’t get better, I go see you?
**I have had the pain in my arm for four days now.**
Answer: Siripan O-charoen (neurology)
From your record (no age of patient provided), I’m thinking about the condition of pressure on brachial plexus because you feel pain when you move your neck. The symptom of pain in your arm is caused by the pain in nerve root, maybe because of cervical spondylosis or neuralgia. I suggest seeing a neurologist for a thorough diagnosis.
