The elderly have changed significantly both physically and mentally. Elder people tend to be physically ill more often and their physical health deteriorates with age. Their mental state can be easily altered and they often have anxiety. This could be due to their physical condition that is no longer as fit as before.
Gastrointestinal deterioration is often found among elder people as the lessened number of teeth makes chewing not so effective. The salivary glands also emit less saliva which is not enough to help mash up food while the muscles that control the swallowing tend not to work as effectively as before, making swallow difficult. Moreover, the decreased amount of enzymes also results in poor digestion and may result in flatulence. The excretory system is often also not normal. Elder people tend to be constipated easily as they have less movement and rarely exercise.
Mentally, elder people may feel devalued after they retire from work. Declined relationship with family members may also result in loneliness and depression. Diseases that are commonly found in the elderly are both physical and mental ones. Often found among elder persons, Obesity can lead to or may occur along with other diseases such as
